Album Review: Port of Morrow by The Shins

It's hard to believe that it's been five years since the last Shins album, Wincing the Night Away . A lot has changed in that amount of time, including the band's lineup. Frontman and songwriter James Mercer is the only original member, disbanding the rest and replacing them with new session players. Mercer has always been the driving force behind the group and opinions have been divided about whether he was justified in taking even more control. Song of the Week #4: Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want by The Smiths

Everyone knows this song. Or at least, they should. It's classic Smiths and one of their shortest, sweetest, and most haunting tunes. I don't want to go any further so just listen to it and discover it for yourself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMQbzLrvwlE

Happy Birthday to Pop and No Line on the Horizon

Yes, I couldn't help giving a quick shout out to my favorite band. U2 has released two albums on March 3 over the course of their career, Pop in 1997 and No Line on the Horizon in 2009 (at least here in the U.S., though it was released in Europe a week earlier on February 27). Both are great albums and if you've never heard them before then today's a great place to start! Here are links to a song from each album: "Do You Feel Loved" from Pop and "FEZ-Being Born" from No Line on the Horizon .
