Recording Music in Space!

Image
Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield has written a song entitled "Jewel in the Night", an ode to the earth written aboard the International Space Station. I've always felt that music and space go well together and it's exciting to see an actual astronaut taking it to the next level.  I'm still looking forward to an actual album at some point. After all, it's bound to happen if given enough time and resources. Until then I think this is pretty awesome and major propers to Hadfield for doing this!

Merry Christmas!

Just wanted to say Merry Christmas to all of you who might stumble across this. Christ was born 2,000 years ago and He's coming again. We have endless hope, so rejoice!

Joe Strummer: 10 Years Later

Image
It's been ten years to the day since Joe Strummer passed away. Even though I'm tired, stressed, and nursing a fever here at home I feel the need to at least post something about it. Like most music fans and musicians, The Clash are certainly a group that I love and will never forget. It's interesting because there are a lot of popular musicians that you can get away with not liking: Led Zeppelin, The Who, Elvis Presley, Nirvana, Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, and many others. Heck, you can even get away with not liking The Beatles and Bob Dylan in some corners---but mention hating The Clash and you'll lose instant credibility. There's something universal about their music and the legacy that Joe helped establish that will forever make them one of the most beloved and influential artists in the history of music. I remember buying The Clash's debut album when I was in high school. At the time I didn't know just what to make of it. It was...

Space Fact of the Week

Want to learn something nifty about Uranus that doesn't result in a joke? Then now's your chance! The only spacecraft that has visited the planet is the Voyager 2. It occurred back in 1986 and passed at a distance of 81,500 km. Sounds like it's time to get back out there and see it again. No joke.

10 Best Albums of 2012

Image
At long last, I've finally managed to sit and go through my favorite releases from this year. 2012 wasn't nearly as prolific as 2011 but I'm okay with that. It's much easier on my wallet when I don't have several records to buy every month; it also gives me more time to really listen to them and spend extra time exploring each record and letting it grow on me. One thing that really struck me this year is how many artists released an album after several years of being out of the spotlight. The Shins, Bloc Party, Keane, The Killers, Counting Crows, and Mumford & Sons all went several years with little or no big releases. Anyway, here it is! 10. Two Door Cinema Club- Beacon 9. Mumford & Sons- Babel 8.  Jack White- Blunderbuss 7. Bloc Party- Four   6. Nada Surf- The Stars Are Indifferent to Astronomy 5. Metric- Synthetica  4. The Shins- Port of Morrow 3. The Killers- Battle Born   ...

Oh Right, There's This Thing!

Is anyone still reading this blog? Has anyone ever read it? I think I'm probably the only one who does, so I'm mainly writing this to myself. Yes, I will get back to it when my schedule settles down, so fear not. New things are coming...

The Beauty of the Kingdom: Service in Action

Image
Today I had the great honor of doing a film shoot for church. However, this wasn't any ordinary shoot, but rather a look at the service of a local ministry that's well-known throughout the community. It was a great morning (despite having to be up early on a Saturday, something that I still have trouble fathoming after 27 years) and it filled me with a lot of joy. I was just a guy there to document and film, yet what I saw was really inspiring. The people coming in were in need of Christmas gifts, clothing, and other needs that many of us tend to take for granted during the holiday season. Every person who entered also got to hear the Christmas story and learn firsthand why they need Jesus in their lives. So many of the people looked grateful and excited that they had a place to go and smiling faces to greet them. The volunteers really impressed me, keeping things running efficiently and showing the love of God to every person who entered. I couldn't help but be ...
